Features and Ease of Use
XYnet offers personal website hosting, corporate website hosting, co-purchase hosting, and even image-only hosting, plus domain registration and email hosting services. Here are some of the standard features included in their shared hosting plans:
- Between 300 MB and 20 GB web capacity
- Unlimited MySQL database capacity
- From 1.2 GB to 20 GB traffic capacity
- From one to thirty add-on domains
- Domain registration available at additional cost
For a native English speaker, the company’s Korean-language website is a little difficult to decipher, even with assistance from Google Translate, but I’ll tell you what I have been able to deduce.
If you’re looking for beginner-friendly features such as a website builder and a one-click installer, you could be left disappointed, but there is mention of WordPress being installable.
If you’re looking for software development features, you could be slightly disappointed. While they do support the now-out-of-favor Flash, plus CGI, JavaScript, Perl, and PHP (up to version 5), there appears to be no support for additional advanced coding languages such as Python and Ruby on Rails. None of the Microsoft technologies such as ASP and JSP are supported by their Linux hosting packages.
Resource allocations depend on the type of hosting – Personal, Enterprise, or Co-purchased – and on the particular level within each type. The Personal hosting lets you choose from five levels, Teen Discount up to Gold, with between 300 MD and 1.5 GB of web data and between 1.2 GB and 3.6 GB of traffic. The Enterprise hosting lets you choose between Corporate Standard (2 GB web data, 4 GB traffic, 5 domains) and Corporate Premium (4 GB web data, 4 GB traffic, 10 domains). The Co-purchased hosting offers three levels, with web data of between 5 GB and 20 GB, with traffic between 6 GB and 20 GB, and with 10 to 30 domains.
This hosting provider also supports MySQL plus FTP and SSH access.
Unfortunately, I can’t say so much about their underlying infrastructure or give concrete details about their data center(s), but I have seen statistics suggesting that at 0.6 sec loading time their site speed is faster than 93% of other sites. Which says something about their hosting.
Pricing and Support
XYnet’s prices range from extremely cheap to very expensive:
- The affordable base packages come with quite limited resource quotas such as 300 MB disk space and 1.2 GB bandwidth, which is much less than even small WordPress installations require.
- The highest price packages are very expensive but they don’t come with many extra features; merely higher resource quotas.
You have to pay extra for domain registration, setup, and SSL certificates.
You can get technical support by telephone or ticket, although I’m not certain if it’s available 24/7. They also offer an online support center for existing customers, but you need to be logged in to access it.
XYnet’s hosting packages description pages do provide some useful support information, mainly in the form of lots of things you’re not allowed to upload, host, or exceed without running the risk of having your services suspended. But to be fair, they do offer to text you when you reach 90% of your daily transmission limit. Some of their FAQ pages (e.g. for email hosting) cannot be translated into English by the Chrome browser at all, which of course will be no limitation at all if you speak Korean.
