WireNet Review 2024 – Looks Good, but What’s the Catch?

James Guill Written by: James Guill

WireNet Chile offers average Linux and Windows shared hosting services with unlimited bandwidth and free SSL certificates. Their Windows hosting is cheaper than other providers, but their support falls well short.

Overview

WireNet Chile has been offering web hosting services from their home country since 2002. There aren’t many providers that own and operate out of their own data center, but WireNet Chile is one of the few companies that does. It’s likely for this reason that they’ve managed to secure a place as one of the top ten hosting providers in the country by market share. They offer shared hosting, VPS, and dedicated server products. Their shared hosting products are suitable for most personal and some small business websites, but their support is very lacking.

Features and Ease of Use

WireNet Chile offers both Linux and Windows shared hosting services with a decent set of basic features that includes free SSL certificates and unlimited bandwidth. Below are some of the features you get with these plans:

  • SSD storage
  • Antispam and antivirus protection
  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • Softaculous auto-installer
  • Free SSL certificates
  • 99.8% uptime
  • Daily backups retained for up to 14 days

WireNet Chile’s plans support multiple versions of PHP, and many of their Windows plans support both MySQL and MSSQL databases.

You’ll notice that while their list of features won’t amaze you, these are actually better than average compared to what you’ll get with many other Chilean providers. Automatic daily backups, for instance, are rare with their competitors. SSD storage is another feature that’s fairly common in the web hosting space but uncommon to the Chilean market specifically.

The downside is that while WireNet Chile claims that your servers are 100% under your control, it’s not clear whether their servers support advanced developer features such as Python. If you need specific features supported, check with their pre-sales team before signing up.

WireNet Chile doesn’t offer a website builder, but they do offer Softaculous, which allows you to install over 300 apps that includes WordPress. Otherwise, you can use FTP and cPanel to set up your website.

Pricing and Support

WireNet Chile provides both Windows and Linux shared hosting with a variety of plans for each. These plans include the main features mentioned earlier. Here’s a brief overview of the differences between each plan:

Basic Intermediate SME Professional Company Full Full 20G Full 30G
Storage 1GB 2GB 3GB 4GB 5GB 10GB 20GB 30GB
Emails 5 10 15 25 50 150 300 Unlimited
Databases 2 3 4 5 7 15 15 30
Subdomains 1 2 3 5 7 10 15 30
FTP Accounts 2 3 4 5 7 10 15 30

These plans allow for anything from entry-level websites to more robust company websites. For Windows Hosting, the stats are pretty much the same as Linux hosting except for databases. Here’s a quick rundown of the database access for Windows hosting:

Basic Intermediate Pyme Pro Enterprise Full Full 20G Full 30G
MySQL Databases 2 3 4 4 7 10 15 30
MSSQL Server 2008/2012 Base 0 0 0 1 2 3 6 10

WireNet’s primary hosting plans support a single domain only. However, they do offer multi-domain hosting that supports anywhere from three to 20 domains. Plan pricing is very affordable, and I find their Windows hosting is cheaper than many other hosts offering similar plans.

However, I’m not a big fan of their support. They offer phone support, but it’s only available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Also, they don’t provide live chat support, although they do offer 24/7 email and ticketing support. They don’t provide a knowledge base, but there are quite a few tutorials available that will walk you through using cPanel and other topics.

WireNet REVIEW: BOTTOM LINE

WireNet Chile’s plans are average for the web hosting industry at large, but above-average for the Chilean market. However, their main plans only support a single domain, and their support is substandard.

Pros

  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • Softaculous auto-installer
  • Free SSL certificates
  • Daily backups to 14 days

Cons

  • Support is substandard
  • Main plans only support single domain hosting
