VPS Malaysia was founded in 2012, so it’s a relatively new entrant to the hosting industry. Despite its name, this vendor sells more than VPS hosting; it also offers shared hosting and dedicated server packages. VPS Malaysia has worked with more than 50,000 customers, and its website and support are both available in English.
Features and Ease of Use
VPS Malaysia provides a range of services. Its shared hosting plans, in particular, come with the following standard features:
- 99.9% uptime guarantee on all plans
- Backups available at additional cost
- Free .com /.net /.org /.us domain registration
- Up to 50 hosted websites
- Free SSL certificates
- Up to 500 GB SSD storage space
- Unlimited bandwidth
This host co-locates its servers in the CX2 data center in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. While this vendor doesn’t own the data center, it does guarantee 99.9% uptime with credits for excessive downtime.
The servers use SSD (which is up to ten times faster than traditional HDD) in RAID 10 configuration, to safeguard data in the event of a disk failure. All the shared hosting plans use CloudLinux to isolate you from other hosted customers.
Shared hosting plans come with the cPanel control panel and the Softaculous one-click installer for more than 400 programs.
Unfortunately, if you’re just starting out, there is no website building tool. Still, if you’re a more advanced customer, you get support for PHP, MySQL databases, and (according to the live chat operator) all popular programming languages.
Pricing and Support
VPS Malaysia’s prices are quite high, but you should take into account that you get a free domain name (for annual plans) and an SSL certificate. The only additional costs are site backups.
The resource allocations are also high; with the ‘Starter’ package, you get 10 GB of disk space and unlimited bandwidth. However, you can only host one domain with this plan.
You can buy hosting plans for durations ranging from one month to three years. If you commit to more than a year, you’ll get a discount of over 50% and a free domain name.
You can access 24/7 customer service by telephone (business hours only), live chat, email, or by submitting a support ticket. My personal experience with the support team was positive. When I contacted this company via live chat in the early evening on a weekday, the operator responded straight away and helped me in English:
