Lithuanian company Vardas. It has been providing hosting services since 2008. It claims to be one of the “leading companies providing internet name registration and server rental,” although I can’t find any evidence to back this up.
This vendor’s basic (and frankly unattractive) website is in Lithuanian.
Features and Ease of Use
As well as selling shared hosting and domain registration, Vardas.lt develops software, implements website projects, and provides technical assistance. Its shared hosting plans come with the following core features:
- Automatic data backup
- Domain registration available
- SSL certificates available
- Up to 1000 MB server space
- Up to 10 GB data flow per month
Vardas. It owns its own data center, so it can also offer colocation services and dedicated servers with 24/7 monitoring by the team technicians. Oddly, I couldn’t find an uptime guarantee, and I couldn’t confirm the existence of one with customer support.
This vendor’s three shared hosting plans are pretty basic, and they all offer the same features apart from increasing resources. Expert webmasters will be pleased to see that all of the plans come with support for PHP (version unspecified), Perl, CGI-BIN, and MySQL databases.
Other features include website visitor statistics, FTP accounts, and data backups. There’s nothing outstanding and there are no beginner-friendly features at all listed on the website, and I couldn’t get any additional information from the company.
Pricing and Support
The resource allocations are low, and the value-added features are few, so it’s hard to understand the premium price point. While it’s nice that this provider owns its own data center, it’s not so nice that it has no apparent uptime guarantee or data center specification.
Hosting plans can be purchased on monthly terms, which means you can start with minimal risk, which is good because there is no free trial and no money-back guarantee.
The vendor’s website is incredibly confusing, making it impossible for me to even add items to the shopping cart. Even if you manage to navigate through the purchasing process, you’ll still need to wait an additional 24 hours for the plan to be activated.
Like everything else about this company, the customer support is underwhelming. You can contact the team by email and Skype during business hours, but you can’t contact them by telephone. The website’s help section is minuscule and made up of only a few basic questions. Needless to say, I never received a reply when I emailed the company.
