Southern California-based hosting provider Siteserver was founded in 1996. It operates three solar-powered data centers in Southern California and Las Vegas which hold 70,000 servers. This company has been awarded a Go Green Innovation Award, and it boasts about having a high A+ BBB rating, but its Better Business Bureau profile shows a B- rating and non-accredited status.

Features and Ease of Use

siteserver 1

Siteserver offers a range of hosting services, including cloud, hybrid, managed server, email, and VoIP.

You might be most interested in the Windows and Linux web hosting plans that are offered at three levels with similar resources and features including unlimited monthly bandwidth and a dedicated IP address.

The entry-level Express plan comes with 10 GB of storage, 100 email accounts, 10 MySQL/MSSQL databases, and 25 subdomains. Stepping up to the Classic package gives you 150 GB of storage, 500 email accounts, 25 databases, and 400 subdomains.

Other web hosting features are:

  • Free domain with annual purchase
  • 99.9% server uptime guarantee
  • 45-day money-back guarantee
  • Unlimited monthly bandwidth
  • Unlimited email accounts
  • SiteBuilder included
  • Google Adwords credit

You can purchase GlobalSign SSL certificates from Siteserver to secure your website and help improve its search engine ranking. The Standard SSL, Wildcard SSL, and Extended SSL certificates feature 2048-bit encryption.

Pricing and Support

siteserver 2

Siteserver’s Windows and Linux shared web hosting plans are not the cheapest available but are still comparable to many other U.S. providers’ plans, especially compared with the renewal prices that other providers charge once a promotional period has ended.

First the good news…

Siteserver promotes its 24/7 customer support, which you can access through telephone, email, live chat, and fax. If you prefer self-support, you’ll find a knowledge base on their website.

Now the bad news…

When I tried to initiate a live chat session, none of the supposedly-available agents answered. When I sent an exploratory email, no one replied. When I clicked any of the “Order Now” buttons for hosting plans, I was lead to an “under construction” page.

Siteserver REVIEW: BOTTOM LINE

Siteserver’s shared hosting plans come with a generous 45-day money-back guarantee, which is higher than the industry norm, and you also get a free domain with annual hosting. Since the website’s purchase links appear to be broken, and since I failed to elicit any response from this provider, I suggest that you proceed with caution.

Pros

  • 99.9% server uptime guarantee
  • 45-day money-back guarantee
  • Unlimited monthly bandwidth included
  • VoIP phone service available

Cons

  • Broken website links
  • No response from customer support
