ServerFreak Technologies is a Malaysian web hosting and services provider that opened for business in 2003. They have three data centers in Malaysia (one in Kuala Lumpur and two in Cyberjaya) plus two in the U.S. cities of Dallas and Los Angeles. Although their aim is to provide simple and affordable hosting, I have found that they offer one of most complete hosting product selections I have seen anywhere.
Features and Ease of Use
So extensive is their offering, it would actually be easier for me to list the features and services that ServerFreak don’t provide, because this would be a much smaller list than the features and services they do provide. So without being exhaustive (and exhausting you in the process) some of the important inclusions are:
- Domain registration included for free with some plans
- Free and purchasable SSL certificates
- Email hosting
- Website design and development services
- SpamExpert spam filtering
- Weebly website builder
- SiteLock hosting security
ServerFreak offers Linux and Windows options as well as e-commerce hosting powered by Unicart and WordPress-specific hosting. The more expensive shared hosting plans are also optimized for WordPress if you want a DIY environment using this CMS. And while on the subject of WordPress hosting, I can tell you that this comes with LiteSpeed Cache for performance and Cloudflare plus Railgun to improve page speed times.
A powerful feature of the e-commerce hosting is that you can integrate your store with many local Malaysian marketplaces such as Lazada, and also integrate with a number of shipping services. It’s the same story with their other products; for example, you can choose from a long list of Linux OS flavors with the server plans.
ServerFreak offers high-end servers with RAID SAS storage, ECC RAM, KVM virtualization, and high bandwidth speeds. Additionally, you have the option to purchase managed services for your products.
Pricing and Support
ServerFreak offers a huge variety of web hosting and server rental products with billing options from monthly to biennial. Although not the cheapest, their basic web hosting is very affordable, and their products give great value by including some of the features that would usually cost extra. All licensing fees are also included in the prices.
Domain registration and SSL certificates are usually included free for customers, although they aren’t available with the cheapest options and you might need to choose annual or biennial billing to qualify. You will find the resource limits to be quite generous, even outside the small number of unlimited options.
ServerFreak offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, but this only covers the hosting subscription fees and no other purchases such as domains. There is also an early cancellation fee for dedicated server plans.
24/7 technical customer support can only be accessed via an email/ticket system, with no telephone or live chat support beyond simply advising you to create a ticket. This may not be as inconvenient as it sounds when I tell you that I have always received rapid responses from friendly and knowledgeable support staff. The FAQ and knowledge base resources are very detailed and easy to use if you prefer to help yourself.
How much does ServerFreak cost?
ServerFreak offers plans from $2 to $14. The price depends on which type of hosting plan you choose. You can see the updated pricing table (updated weekly) below.
Which ServerFreak plan should I get?
My recommendation is to start with a cheaper plan. You can always upgrade later on. ServerFreak can help you with the migration to a more expensive plan. The increase in visitors many times takes longer than expected and you shouldn’t pay a lot of money until the need arises. Of course, your needs may vary, and you can consult with a hosting expert from ServerFreak.
How good is ServerFreak’s customer support?
ServerFreak is not ranked as one of our top web hosts. But that can also be a result of ServerFreak being a small, under the radar, hosting provider. There are advantages to a small hosting company – as a customer, you are more important to them. You can also check out our comparison of the most popular web hosting services here.
