Features and Ease of Use
Prosite offers a simple selection of packages including shared hosting, managed hosting, and dedicated server rentals. To give you an idea of their services, their shared hosting plans come with the following features as standard:
- 99.9% availability
- Level I, II and III backups
- One year free domain registration
- Unlimited add-on domains (not in the base package)
- At least 1 GB web space
- Unlimited traffic
Prosite owns and operates its own German data center, which means technical issues should be attended to quite quickly. It also means they’re less likely to oversell the available resources. What’s more, the data center runs on 100% green energy and saves more than 3620 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
I am impressed that they offer support for the far faster PHP version 7 as well as the much slower version 5, plus FTP access and multiple add-on domains. But beginners will be disappointed that there is no one-click installer and no website builder.
Ideally, I’d prefer to have more details about whether they back their 99.9% availability with any kind of service level agreement.
Pricing and Support
Prosite offers three unmanaged shared hosting plans – Blog, Static and Dynamic – each of which includes 1 GB web space and unlimited traffic. The only differences between the plans are access to additional features such as extra domains, PHP support, and MySQL databases.
The prices for their shared hosting plans are quite affordable compared with local and international companies. Domain registration is free with the higher packages, whilst SSL certificates cost extra if required. Also, some plans (but not all) incur a setup fee.
One of the best bits about Prosite is their 90-day “no questions asked” money-back guarantee. This is very generous, and it makes up for the fact that they offer only annual terms. I did find their checkout pages to be a little complicated and buggy, but this may have have been because I was using Google Translate, so – quite literally – some functionality may have been lost in translation.
Prosite offers 24-hour ticket-based support as well as an FAQ section and a network status page. They also provide signed-up customers with a support telephone number, but (annoyingly) this has a per-minute cost. When I wanted help, I just sent them a Facebook message, and they responded relatively quickly with an informative answer.
