Swiss hosting company Oxito was established in 2002. With over 11,000 hosted websites and more than 80,000 email accounts, this is one of the fastest growing hosting providers. It offers a range of web-related services such as email services, domain registration, and Linux-based shared hosting packages.
Oxito’s elegant website is in French. Although it looks like it can be switched into English, this seems to apply only to the home page.
Features and Ease of Use
At the time of writing, Oxito is expanding its web hosting product range to include VPS and cloud hosting solutions. In the meantime, its shared hosting plans come with the following features:
- 99.99% network uptime
- Free SSL certificate
- Up to 100 GB storage
- Pre-installed CMS
- Daily backups
- Up to unlimited databases
All shared hosting packages provide daily backups, data protection, antivirus, and anti-spam. They also come with free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates by default, but you can install more advanced SSL certificates if you want to.
Oxito’s hosting plans support PHP, phpMyAdmin, and MySQL databases, but there are no remote MySQL connections and no Cron jobs, and there is no SSH access as far as I can see.
I’m disappointed that there is no evidence of any website builder for beginner webmasters. However, you can create your website using the pre-installed CMS.
All servers are housed in a Tier 3 data center in Geneva, Switzerland. While the company assures 99.99% uptime, its servers use slower HDD storage rather than the far faster SSD storage.
Pricing and Support
Oxito offers three shared hosting plans – Simplicity, Liberty, and Serenity – which differ in terms of storage space and the number of hosted sites, databases, and email accounts.
For a small website or a personal blog, the Simplicity plan comes with 10 GB web space, 1 database, 1 domain name, and 5 POP/IMAP mailboxes. If you need more resources, the Liberty plan provides 25 GB storage, 5 domain names, 5 databases, and 10 email accounts. If that’s still not enough, you can go for the Serenity plan that gives you 100 GB disk space, unlimited websites, unlimited databases, and 20 mailboxes.
Prices are pretty affordable for features and web space, especially if you opt for an annual subscription that also provides you with a free domain. Although there is no money-back guarantee, you can ask the customer support team for a test-drive of the service. Then you can pay by bank transfer, PayPal, or credit card.
24/7 customer service can be accessed via email or support ticket, and you can also request a callback. Since Oxito has an active presence on social media, I contacted the team via Facebook, which resulted in them subsequently sending me all the information I needed:
For self-support, there is a simple FAQ section and a set of video tutorials in French.
