HostSlayer was founded in 2016, then subsequently acquired by HostSlim B.V Holdings in early 2018. It has an English website, with offices and servers located around the world.
Features and Ease of Use
HostSlayer offers a simple range of shared hosting packages, which, as standard, come with the following core features:
- 100% uptime guarantee
- Free automatic daily backups
- Unlimited add-on domains
- SSL certificates available
- Up to 50GB SSD disk space
- Unmetered bandwidth
HostSlayer’s servers are housed in its parent company, HostSlim’s data center in Lelystad, the Netherlands. It commits to only using up to 70% of its capacity, even in peak usage periods.
The website boasts a 100% uptime Service Level Agreement, however, there’s no information relating to compensation in the event of downtime, it only states HostSlayer promises to not let your website be down for longer than two hours. It’s all a bit confusing.
The plans use SSD storage in RAID 10 configuration, which means both faster disk read/write times up to ten times faster than traditional HDD, and as your data is duplicated, there’s less risk of data loss in the event of disk failure. CloudLinux means that your data will be isolated from your neighbors and there’s even a free Cloudflare CDN to sweeten the deal.
As well as a raft of performance-enhancing features, the resource allocations are generous with unlimited domains, databases, FTP accounts, email addresses, and unmetered bandwidth. There’s also beginner-friendly Softaculous and Fantastico one-click installers.
Pricing and Support
Considering the high level of resources and value-added features, the prices are very good value for money. Most everyday webmasters will be perfectly happy in the very cheap base plan.
You do need to purchase a domain name and an SSL certificate, but given the pricing, that’s okay. HostSlayer even offers free website migrations to help you get started easily and there’s a seven-day money back guarantee as well.
Support is available 24/7 by live chat, phone, and ticket. There’s a small knowledge base, so you’ll likely be reliant on the customer service team. The website clearly states that the response time to live chat is instant and for tickets, it’s 30 minutes.
However, this is where my main issue with the company arises. I have made several attempts to contact the team through live chat, but despite being online, I have been unable to get anyone to respond.
