HostPuma was established with the goal of making website hosting affordable and accessible to anyone. While doing this, it’s also always tried to maintain the highest standards in customer support and reliability, which is why 24/7 technical support and uptime guarantees are offered with all products. HostPuma operates three data center facilities throughout the U.S. in Kansas, Los Angeles, and Pennsylvania.
Features and Ease of Use
Without domain registration and SSL certificates, HostPuma isn’t really a comprehensive hosting provider but it does provide solid features in other areas:
- 9% uptime guarantee for all plans
- Unlimited domain add-ons with all web hosting plans
- Four automatic backups daily
- Up to unlimited storage for web hosting and SSD storage for VPS plans
- Unlimited bandwidth with all web hosting plans and high bandwidth limits for VPS or dedicated servers
All of the web hosting products are hosted out of Los Angeles while VPS servers are in Pennsylvania and dedicated servers are in Kansas. The web hosting plans don’t provide any CMS-specific solutions but do come with both cPanel and the Softaculous script installer, so you can install over 400 hosting apps with just a few clicks.
They also come with optimization software programs such as CloudFlare, Ioncube Loader, and Zend optimizer as well as support for PHP and Ruby on Rails. You get unlimited bandwidth, domain add-ons and subdomains, and email accounts too.
VPS and dedicated servers are focused more on performance than software features. However, bandwidth is limited, which is likely meant to keep prices lower, but the limits are still high enough that they shouldn’t pose a problem.
VPS plans are managed to ensure reliability and come with between 50GB and 100GB of SSD storage, 2GB to 8GB RAM, and four to twelve CPU cores. They also provide a cPanel/WHM control panel and you have full root access.
Dedicated servers are powered by Dual Xeon processors and have up to 4TB of SATA storage. The bandwidth limits are 20TB with 1 Gbps ports which is unlikely to be used up. All plans come with five dedicated IPv4 IPs.
Pricing and Support
HostPuma provides straightforward ranges of web hosting, reseller, VPS, and dedicated server plans with three packages each. The billing options are also flexible with monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, biennial, and triennial options. Longer terms are, unfortunately, not discounted. All plans, even VPS and dedicated servers, are covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Even though it’s not the cheapest hosting option available, the pricing is still reasonable and offers good value for money. You get ample storage, bandwidth, and other unlimited features, which makes it worthwhile. The VPS plans, on the other hand, may be slightly expensive, mainly because they come with managed services.
For web hosting, free migration services are provided and no setup fees are charged for any of their products. Unfortunately, the price of your hosting doesn’t cover a domain or SSL certificate, which you’ll need to purchase elsewhere.
HostPuma claims to provide 24/7 customer support with all of its hosting products, though only via support ticket. In fact, no other contact methods are listed on the website. Despite this claim, they have on occasion failed to reply to queries regarding their products and services. After you sign up though, support is generally better based on testimonials. This is important since they don’t provide a knowledge base or tutorials.
