Freehostia is a web hosting provider that’s been in business for over 10 years. They offer what they call “cluster hosting,” which basically means that each asset in their network serves a specific purpose and runs only a certain type of service. For example, they have servers dedicated solely to MySQL, which reduces expenses, cuts the load each server has to handle and optimizes the performance of those servers. This enables them to provide affordable, high-performance web hosting to their users. Their cPanel supports over 15 languages, making it accessible to users worldwide, and uptime is rated excellent at 99.92%.
Reviews of their customer support show mixed opinions, with many reviews from five or more years ago stating that their servers are frequently down or buggy. However, one of Freehostia’s best qualities is their constant learning from customer feedback and their proactive approach to upgrading their service when necessary. In recent times, users have reported that their support staff consistently go above and beyond to fix bugs and address issues promptly, resulting in a significant improvement in their hosting service compared to a few years ago.
Freehostia has four paid plans, ranging from the most basic Watercircle plan to their most advanced Supernatural plan. All paid plans come with a 30-day free trial. With Watercircle, you get 2 gigs of space, 50 gigs of bandwidth, 100 e-mail accounts, SMTP server access, and Elefante (their 1-click script installer). The Supernatural plan comes with all the features of the cheaper plans plus unlimited disk space, bandwidth, e-mail accounts, and MySQL storage, and a free domain registration. Freehostia also offers a free hosting plan called Chocolate. On the Chocolate plan, users can host up to 5 domains and get 250 megabytes of storage, 6 gigs monthly bandwidth, 24/7 customer support, their 1-click free script installer, no advertising, and much more. There’s a transfer limit of 500KB per file and no SMTP access, but other than that, Freehostia’s Chocolate plan looks better than the industry average. There’s no time limit to the free plan.
Freehostia might offer a good service at a reasonable price, but does it match up with the
top web hosting companies? We find it hard to say “yes.”
FAQ
Does Freehostia offer free trials?
Along with its forever-free Chocolate plan, Freehostia’s paid plans also offer a 30-day free trial. You don’t need to sign up with a credit card, so there’s no need to worry about accidental charges.
Why don’t you recommend free web hosting?
Free web hosting is always heavily limited. For example, Freehostia’s Chocolate plan features very few resources. It would struggle to serve even a basic website.
If you’re at all serious about having people visit your site and read content or buy products or services, it’s always better to choose a quality budget host. And for the best deals on budget hosting plans, check out the great discounts for 2024 on our coupon page.
Which of Freehostia’s plans give you the best value for money?
I’d recommend Freehostia’s Watercircle plan: it offers sizable storage space and a decent amount of bandwidth for a low price.
However, many of the hosts in our list of the best web hosting services for 2024 offer even better resources for similar prices, along with impressive features.
What’s the difference between shared hosting and cloud hosting?
With shared hosting, your website resides on a single physical server with many other customers. On the other hand, cloud hosting allows your site to use the resources of many servers across a cloud network, allowing for better performance and reliability.
