Eirbyte has been in the web hosting business since 1998. In 2001, the company launched Ireland’s first carbon-neutral website, since when it has been completely “off-grid” and powered entirely by a wind turbine and solar panels.
This hosting business has servers in several counties — Germany, Ireland, Holland, England, France, Switzerland, Canada, Luxembourg, and the U.S.A. — to serve a global clientele, and its website is in English.
Features and Ease of Use
Eirbyte offers Shared Hosting (two plans powered by carbon credits), Hydro Powered Hosting (one shared plan, and three VPS, powered by hydro-electric stations), and Solar Powered Hosting (three shared plans, and four VPS, powered by solar panels).
Depending on the type of hosting you choose, your server will sit in Europe, the U.S.A., or Canada. For example, the hydro plans use data centers in Canada, Sweden, Iceland, and Austria. The solar-powered servers come from California.
The two cheapest shared hosting plans provide you with:
- 2 GB to 8 GB disk space
- 100 GB to 200 GB monthly bandwidth
- Free website migration
- SSD storage
From what I can see, there is no one-click installer or website builder to help you create your web presence, but Eirbyte will install WordPress with plugins if you choose one of its Cloud VPS plans that sit on servers in 22 locations from Atlanta to Zurich.
Pricing and Support
Eirbyte’s shared hosting plans are competitively priced, so in this case, you’re not necessarily paying a premium to go green. You can purchase the euro-priced plans by bank transfer, PayPal, or credit/debit card, on billing cycles from monthly to annual. There is no money-back guarantee as far as I can see.
There are no self-support resources, but you can contact this company’s customer support team during working hours on weekdays via Twitter or an online form. My online form submission received a speedy response (but didn’t actually answer the questions I asked).
