Domenar has been providing Slovenian website hosting since 2000. It claims you will “sell more, faster and with greater added value”, if you choose Domenar to host your website. The website is available in Slovenian.
Features and Ease of Use
As well as website hosting, Domenar sells website design and domain registration. Its shared hosting plans come with the following core features:
- Daily, weekly, and monthly data backups
- Domain registration available
- Unlimited add-on domains
- Free SSL certificate
- Up to 90GB disk space
- Unlimited traffic per month
All of the shared hosting plans come with support for PHP 5 (sadly, not the twice as fast version 7), MySQL databases, and FTP access, so all of the usual advanced level features are covered. For ease of use, there’s 312 preinstalled scripts, cPanel access, and website visitor statistics.
The Slovenian based servers use SSD storage, which means your website should perform up to 300% faster than with traditional HDD, but unfortunately, there isn’t an uptime guarantee on the website (I wasn’t able to get confirmation from support either).
Noticeably, the plans don’t appear to come with a website building tool, but if you do need assistance with your website, Domenar provides website design and development (although I’m not overly impressed with it’s own website). You can also get the team to optimize your website for SEO, for an added fee.
If you need to scale your online presence, Domenar sells VPS packages, which come with full root access and 24/7 support and monitoring.
Pricing and Support
Given the relatively low level of resources and value added features, I am surprised to see quite high prices. If you sign up for an unrealistic five year term, you get a decent rate, but that’s not ideal for most website owners. To make matters worse, there’s no money-back guarantee or free trial.
All plans come with a free SSL certificate and some get a free domain name, as well. Uniquely, if you purchase a domain, you get three months free hosting, so perhaps that’s one way to try the service with a lower amount of risk. And, maybe the 80 Euro Google Adwords credit, softens the blow a little too!
Customer service operates from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and can be contacted via phone and email. Interestingly, the company maintains an active Facebook page, although it doesn’t have a large following. Some positive reviews can be found there. However, there isn’t a dedicated help desk available, so the quality of customer service becomes crucial. Unfortunately, I sent an email on a Thursday and didn’t receive a response even after waiting for two days.
