Code Blue Hosting Reviews 2024 – Does It Meet Our Standards

Mark Holden Written by: Mark Holden

Code Blue Hosting has been providing services out of Canadian and U.S. data centers since 2012. Affordable, solid, but with a low uptime guarantee.

Overview

Code Blue Hosting-overview11
Code Blue Hosting was founded in 2012 and is based out of Georgetown, Ontario, Canada. It has a professional website, which is available in English only.

Features and Ease of Use

Code Blue Hosting sells a range of hosting services including shared, dedicated servers, and cloud plans. The shared hosting plans come with these features as standard:

  • 99% uptime guarantee
  • Daily automatic backups
  • Domain registration available
  • Free SSL certificates
  • Up to 5GB disk space
  • Up to 50GB bandwidth

Code Blue Hosting co-locates its servers in a Toronto-based data center and a Dallas-based center. The Canadian network is Juniper based with redundant 10G routing connected to multiple Tier 1 fiber networks.

The plans come with user-friendly cPanel access, CloudLinux for isolation of your data from your neighbors, and LiteSpeed Web Server to ensure high performance. The network and software are solid, so it’s disappointing to see a well below average 99% uptime guarantee.

While none of the features are particularly outstanding, it’s good to see most of the basic features are included like free setup and daily automatic backups using Bacula4 with the option to restore up to 15 times per month.

The plans are fully managed, which means Code Blue Hosting handles AntiVirus scanning and reporting, and security. There’s also an enterprise-level email filter to protect your email from spam.

The cPanel includes website building tools and Softaculous one-click installer, so it’s easy for beginners to get started with minimal technical experience.

When you’re ready to scale up your online presence, Code Blue Hosting also sells dedicated server plans with dual power supplies and HDD (not ten times faster SSD) in RAID 10 configuration.

Pricing and Support

The plans are cheap, especially if they are managed by Code Blue Hosting. You can only pay monthly, so there are no incentives to sign up for a longer term. Having said that, it’s nice to have minimal commitment.

All plans come with an SSL certificate, but you do need to purchase a domain name, and there’s also 5% tax added when you checkout. Not huge added costs, but something to consider if budget is important to you.

You can reach customer service through email, contacting the sales, billing, and support departments. Additionally, they have a 24/7 phone support. I sent an email to the team around lunchtime in Ontario. Although I waited a couple of business days for a reply, unfortunately, I didn’t receive anything.

However, Code Blue Hosting stands out for the quality of its help desk. There are tons of video tutorials available on a wide range of topics from FTP to phpMyAdmin to WordPress. It’s one of the best resources I’ve seen.

Code Blue Hosting REVIEW: BOTTOM LINE

As well as shared hosting, Code Blue Hosting also offers custom built dedicated servers. The plans are a mixed bag; the uptime is low, the network is solid, and the help desk is top notch.

Pros

  • Network is robust
  • Knowledge base is substantial
  • Customer service is available 24/7
  • Month-to-month plans are available

Cons

  • No reply received from customer service
  • Uptime guarantee is low
