Squarespace Completes Google Domains Migration
Website builder Squarespace has finalized the Google Domains migration. Squarespace announced that all Google domains have successfully migrated to its platform after it acquired Google Domains last year.
On June 15, 2023, Google entered into a definitive agreement with Squarespace, agreeing to sell all Google domain registrations and related customer accounts to the website-building platform. With the completion of the migration of millions of domains, all Google Domains customers have become Squarespace customers.
“We worked closely with the Google team to make the migration as seamless as possible and expanded Squarespace Domains to provide an upgraded, industry-leading service for all customers,” Squarespace said in a press release.
“Beyond the migration, we’ve deepened our long-standing partnership with Google by integrating services like Cloud DNS into our Domains offering and continuing to offer private, professional email from Google Workspace.”
From now on, both migrated and new customers will have independent registrar experience for hosting domains, regardless of whether they use the Squarespace website builder or other services.
Migrated customers to Squarespace Domains receive several benefits at no extra cost. These include an SSL/TLS certificate and WHOIS privacy for enhanced security. Additional features include DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) and two-factor authentication. Customers also gain access to email and domain forwarding capabilities, along with other tools and services.
The Google Domains acquisition is part of Squarespace’s effort to expand its proprietary domain registrar, Squarespace Domains, which the company launched eight years ago. Since acquiring Google Domains, Squarespace has made a series of updates to the platform, including a revamped Domains dashboard, expanded offerings, and over 100 new top-level domains (TLDs) across various fields.
With a platform as vast as Google Domains under its helm, Squarespace continues to evolve from its humble roots as a dorm-room project focusing on blog hosting to a one-stop destination for digital tools and services.
Aside from the Squarespace website builder, the company now offers a suite of business tools and services like professional email and the scheduling software Acuity.
