Google Adds AI Features to All Workspace Business Plans

Google has decided to include its AI tools “Gemini” and “NotebookLLM” in all Workspace business and enterprise plans, replacing the previous premium add-on model. The company announced these changes in a blog post earlier this month, noting that it will raise monthly fees by $2 to offset expenses.

By offering AI features without separate subscriptions, Google aims to strengthen its productivity suite and make advanced AI capabilities more accessible to every user.

Gemini will integrate into Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and other Workspace apps. It will enable users to summarize lengthy documents, draft new materials based on existing data, and even generate videos. The app can also take real-time notes during Google Meet sessions, potentially reducing manual work and boosting collaboration.

In response to competing reasoning models like GPT-o and Sky-T1, Google will roll out Gemini Advanced. The company’s announcement stated that Gemini Advanced can “help you tackle complex projects including coding, research, and data analysis and lets you build Gems, your team of AI experts to help with repeatable or specialized tasks.”

The new integration goes beyond routine text generation, aiming to handle more sophisticated problem-solving and project workflows.

Google also plans to launch NotebookLLM Plus, an AI research assistant designed to clarify complicated subjects. This tool can extract key insights from hefty documents and generate entire podcasts on specific content, helping users digest large amounts of information more efficiently.

Before this update, Gemini was available to business Workplace users at an extra $20 per user per month, added to their existing plan fees. With AI capabilities now included by default, previous Gemini subscribers can drop the additional charges, though all Workspace plans will still incur a $2 monthly increase. For existing customers, these new rates take effect on March 17, 2025.

“By removing the need to pay for an add-on to access our latest generative AI capabilities, we’re simplifying our plans and pricing to bring the added value of Google AI to all Workspace customers,” states the company.

This shift comes at a moment when progress in fresh AI innovations is slowing, according to Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO. If advancement continues to plateau, more businesses may turn their focus to refining and incorporating existing AI technologies into user-friendly products.
