Free Logo Creator iskustva 2024 – zašto 3.5 zvjezdica?

Ezequiel Bruni Napisao/la: Ezequiel Bruni
I signed up for an account at Free Logo Creator, reviewed their templates and unique features, tested how simple it is to use the platform, and checked with support on several issues.  When done, I tried to cancel my account and receive a refund. This is my experience with Free Logo Creator - I hope you can learn from it.

The Best Free Logo Maker I’ve Used

Free Logo Creator is one of the few similarly-named apps that actually lives up to its name. I can tell you it has no paid plans whatsoever.

It’s available only in English, but you can use any language you want, including Chinese and Russian (depending on your chosen typeface). There are over 40 categories of logo templates, too. And I can tell you that I rather like it.

Now just because I like it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right for you. And besides, how good can a completely free service actually be? Wouldn’t it be easier to just pay $5 USD to someone on Fiverr, and have them make a logo for you1?

Well yes, it would, but Free Logo Creator does come with its own advantages and disadvantages to consider. Your mileage may vary. Go ahead and read on to see if this free app has what it takes to compete with its paid competitors (like Wix Logo Maker and Tailor Brands) or even with professional designers.

Note: We ran a contest comparing all of the best and a few of the worst logo design services out there. The logo made by/with the winning service became Website Planet’s official new logo. Free Logo Creator didn’t win, but you can find out which service did in my in-depth comparison of the top logo design services.

The Free Logo Creator Template Browser

A Wealth of Features, All Things Considered

This is a strictly template-based app, so there is no step-by-step wizard to guide you through making a logo. There are simply categories, keywords, and a whole ton of logo templates associated with them. This means you’ll have to put a bit of work into making your logo, but it also allows for a lot of flexibility.

The templates vary in quality. Some feel a bit dated, and some are a bit too complex, but most are perfectly decent and can help you make a good logo, fast. Of course, using logo templates presents you with the eternal problem with logo maker apps: sometimes other people will use the same templates and end up with similar logos to yours.

However, Free Logo Creator comes with a lot of tools for customizing your logo to make it your own. So with a bit of time and effort, originality shouldn’t be an issue. Let’s dive in.

Unlimited Logo Concepts and Downloads

Many free logo maker apps (and similar creative apps) will try to limit what you can do on a free plan. Well, as mentioned, the only plan here is the free plan, and you can use it as much as you want. Generate unlimited logos for free, for as long as you want, and download as many as you like.

Start with a Blank Canvas

Few logo editors allow this, but if you don’t like any of the templates you’ve seen, you can start with a blank canvas. That means you can pick all of your logo’s elements and design it from scratch, laying them out however you want. In fact, let me gush about that in the next section.

Highly Flexible Editor

This is the part of the review that I am happiest to write. The editor app, while not exactly a full graphics app, is quite powerful, and will let you design almost any kind of logo you want, so long as you like the fonts and icons you find there. You can drag and drop anything anywhere in the canvas, and add as much text as you want. You can only put one “icon” on the canvas, but there is also a library of basic shapes, and you can use as many of those as you like.

The shapes menu, and some shapes on the canvas
The shape library is actually pretty huge.

On top of that, there are the ever-popular “shield” shapes that you can put behind icons.

The shield shapes menu
The shield library is somewhat less huge.

You can choose custom colors or gradients for all text, icons, and shapes, change the opacity of any object on the canvas, and apply effects (like shininess, gloss, and shadows). And you can do it all with precise controls that let you put things exactly where you want them. You can nudge objects around with the arrow keys, or literally type in the pixel coordinates you want.

The precise controls I mentioned.
I do love me some precise controls. It makes my nerdy side (like 95% of me) very happy.

Sadly, the editor doesn’t snap objects together when you drag and drop them.

Lastly, there are stylistic text effects reminiscent of the old WordArt effects some of us cool kids used in grade school. Well, at least those of us who used MS Office. That said, these text effects are a little bit better. For the most part. I genuinely don’t know if this feature should raise or lower the score, because the very concept of WordArt is giving me some flashbacks.

WordArt-style text effects.
These would look better in context. Probably.

Come Back and Edit Your Logo Any Time

Even after you download your logo, you’re free to come back and make as many edits as you like. No paywall. No problems. This is a straight-up better deal than most of the logo maker apps you’ll find out there, so… enough said.

My Experience with Free Logo Creator

I just put in the name of the site I wanted to make a logo for (Website Planet), the industry/category of logo templates I wanted to see (Internet & Technology), skipped the tagline, and dove right in. The template browsing screen looked like the screenshot at the top of this features section, and it didn’t take me long to find a logo template I liked.

From there, the process is literally just “edit and download.” It took me only a minute or so to get used to the interface, because it has a lot in common with other logo makers. As you might have guessed by my gushing earlier, I quite liked this logo editor, and it wasn’t long before I created something I liked well enough:

The logo I made.
They do have icons I think are definitely better, but as a designer, I’m going through my techy clipart period.

It’s a bit more abstract-ish and “techy” than I usually go for when writing these reviews, but I had fun with it. And I’ve made worse.

After all that, I just had to fill out my name and email address to download my logo in PNG format.

It should be noted here that PNG is the only format you can download your logo in. Free Logo Creator does support transparent backgrounds, and the logo files come in at a maximum size of 840 x 490 pixels. That’s not enough for printing in most cases (unless your letterhead is very small), but it’s easily big enough to use on a website, or on any number of social media profiles. It’s also big enough to work into larger graphics projects.

I can say that I was genuinely happy with my free logo editing experience, and I think it’s easy enough to make a logo that feels quite unique. Of course, that means putting extra time into your design, but it’s certainly possible. Despite any small flaws, this is probably the best free logo editor I’ve used, and it earns a perfect score for having all these features in a free package.

The Free Logo Creator editor

Less of a Learning Curve, More of a Learning Bump

If you’ve never used any sort of online graphics app before, you might be a bit confused at first. This one comes with a lot of options, and it’s not always apparent what those options do until you try them.

If you have even a little familiarity with graphics software, you’ll catch on fast with little issue. As always, I say to just try things and hit the Undo button if you don’t like the results. I can see people learning the basics of Free Logo Creator in minutes, and the rest in half an hour at most.

Save Your Logos

Being able to save your work and go back to it later is important enough to me that I always bring it up. Well, here we go. Yes, you can save your logos to work on them later, but the system is not so intuitive. See, you can’t sign up for the site or log into it. There simply is no membership system there.

Basically, when you download a logo, you get a link that lets you go back and edit it. That link is also sent to your email, so you may want to provide a valid and working address. I personally haven’t gotten any spam from the site, so I can give them a thumbs up for that.

The downside to this system is that I do not know how long the system will store your logo in an editable state. I have not found any information on the site about this.

Preview Logo Templates with Custom Colors and Fonts

One cool little feature is in the template browsing screen, and that is the ability to customize logos (a little bit) before you even get to the editor. You can change the fonts, colors, and even the layout of every template on your screen.

Here’s an example of the feature in action. I chose the colors and the layout I wanted, and this is what it looked like:

The template browser with custom settings applied.
Website Planet does love purple.

Heck, depending on how simple a logo you need, this feature can do half your work for you. Your logo won’t look the most original, but you would save a lot of time.

Massive List of Categories and Keywords

There’s a handy page on the site called “Logo Ideas,” which is basically designed to help you find the template you want faster. It’s got all of the main template categories/industries of course, but I wanted to point you to the fairly comprehensive list of more detailed keywords. You know, for when you need your search to be really narrow.

Here’s roughly a quarter of the keyword list, to give you an idea of what I’m talking about.

Only one fourth because I’m not going to make you scroll that much unless you actually have to.

The Contact page

This Is the Part That Really Hurts the Overall Score

Okay, so my experience with the support for Free Logo Creator has not been great. There is an FAQ that doesn’t quite answer some of the more important questions, there are those handy video tutorials, and that’s about it.

Oh, there are a few ways to contact them (a contact form on the site, the Twitter account, and the Facebook page), but after waiting a few days, I got no response whatsoever to any of my questions, on any channel.

Also – and this is very weird – the contact form on the site has a character limit for messages. Only 100 characters – less than a tweet.

It’s worth mentioning that this service is most likely run by a small team, and it’s worth reiterating that it’s all being done for free. I haven’t seen any ads on the site, either, though there is a request for donations when you download your logo. Simply put, it’s no real surprise if the team behind Free Logo Creator just doesn’t have the time to keep up with questions.

However, if you like to know support is available when you’re using a platform, this might be a dealbreaker for you. Therefore, this section gets the lowest score possible.

Cijene

Again, this is all completely free. It’s really tough to beat not paying for stuff. Unless you need that customer support team on standby.

Usage Rights

And here’s where we run into another small issue. There is no specific information about the rights to the logos you make. I checked the FAQ (see what I mean about the FAQ not answering important questions?), the Terms of Service, and even the Privacy Policy. I mean, I never check the Privacy Policy. I just assume my information is being sold to our lizard-people overlords or something.

However… the About Us page does clearly state that Free Logo Creator was designed to help out online startups, entrepreneurs, and others. It is highly unlikely that anyone will ever give you grief for using the logos you make for commercial purposes.

It’s just worth noting that none of that legal stuff is clearly specified. In a corporate environment, for example, that’s just not going to work. This is the only reason this section doesn’t get a perfect score.

A Note on Security

While we’re talking about legal-ish stuff, I thought I’d bring up the Privacy Policy again. Remember how I normally just assume that I have no privacy whatsoever? How when a service is free, that means your data is the product being sold?

Turns out that Free Logo Creator very specifically does not operate that way. It does not sell or give data to third-party advertisers, though the hosting service the site is on (and other services they might rely on) may have access to your name and email address. Of course, anyone can just say nice things like that, but given that the site hasn’t spammed me at all, I’m inclined to give these people the benefit of the doubt.

This is actually pretty uncommon for a free product, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

Free Logo Creator recenzija: Zaključak

If you’re comfortable doing things entirely on your own, if you’re on the very tightest of budgets, and if you like having complete control over a design, Free Logo Creator is for you. The actual software is some of the best I’ve reviewed, even if it can be a bit rough around the edges. The lack of support options may hold some potential users back, but hey, it’s totally free!

If you have even five dollars to spend, however, it would be a heck of a lot easier to head on over to Fiverr, and have a professional build you a custom logo, like we did (you can see the results in our in-depth Fiverr Logo Design review). This can save you a lot of time and effort you’d have to spend designing everything yourself, so you should give it a look before committing to making your own logo.
