Charley Zuidinga is the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Qualee Technology, a company that specializes in HR technology, with vast experience across various sectors and continents, including Fortune 500 companies.
To start, tell us briefly about you. What is your current role at your company, and what are the measurable achievements you are most proud of?
I’ve dedicated my career to building strong company cultures and solving employee experience challenges within modern, global companies. Before founding Qualee, I served as a management consultant and held several executive roles in technology companies. My journey also includes several years in the Formula 1 ecosystem, where I developed a deep appreciation for the ambition and value of high-performing teams.
These experiences fueled my drive to create Qualee, an award-winning employee experience platform that fosters organizational alignment and belonging.
As for measurable achievements I’m proud of – our clients have reported substantial increases in employee engagement scores and productivity as well as notable reductions in regrettable attrition rates. We’ve expanded our global reach to serve diverse industries across numerous countries, demonstrating the universal applicability of our platform. Our high platform adoption and customer retention rates place us among the top performers in the HR Tech space. Additionally, I’m particularly proud of the recognition Qualee has received, including multiple industry awards that validate our innovative approach to enhancing employee experience and organizational culture.
What pain point(s) do you solve for your customers? What was the “aha Moment” that led to the idea? Can you share that story with us?
At Qualee, we address critical pain points that many companies face when it comes to employee engagement and experience.
Traditional HR tools often prioritize the needs of administrators, leaving employees feeling disconnected and lacking a sense of belonging. This can lead to low productivity, low engagement, and high turnover rates. Our platform flips this paradigm by focusing on the employee first, ensuring that every interaction throughout the employee lifecycle is seamless, tailored and engaging—from pre-boarding and onboarding, ongoing learning and upskilling, to continuous employee sentiment analysis and eNPS improvement recommendations, to offboarding.
The inspiration behind Qualee stemmed from my co-founder and I recognizing this gap in the HR tech market. We both could relate to the anxiety of starting a new job and dealing with ineffective management. Our professional experience also reinforced how essential employee experience is. Especially from my background of working with Formula 1, I have seen firsthand how a strong company culture, dependable collaboration, consistent communication, streamlined processes and constructive feedback are key to winning teams.
If we could create a platform that addressed these pain points by putting employees at the center, we could not only improve individual experiences but also drive overall business success. Our solution combines the best of what we’ve learned, making it easier for companies to foster an engaged, high-performing workforce.

We’ve built a solution that addresses every stage of the employee lifecycle, from onboarding to ongoing engagement, all the way through to offboarding. Our capabilities are robust, and we’ve integrated the latest technologies to ensure that our platform is not just effective but also user-friendly and adaptable to the diverse needs of our clients.
Another aspect that makes us unique is our global reach. We have a diversity-led team that spans across five continents, bringing a wealth of perspectives and experiences to our product development and client support. From your experience, what are the most important things to build a highly successful website and online business? Please explain each in detail.
The foundation of any successful online business or website starts with a deep understanding of your target audience. Who are they? What are their pain points? What solutions are they seeking?
At Qualee, we spent a significant amount of time researching and engaging with our target market to ensure our solution truly resonates with their needs. This insight guided the design and functionality of our website and platform, ensuring it delivers real value to our users.
Equally important is the integration of relevant and helpful content that speaks directly to the needs of your audience while keeping them informed and engaged. Too many businesses overlook or underestimate the importance of a content strategy. Without regular updates and relevant content, websites can become stale, resulting in decreased traffic and engagement. It’s essential to develop a content calendar that includes blog posts, helpful resources, videos where possible and overall fresh content to keep the audience informed and engaged over time.
Finally, the journey doesn’t end once the website is live. Continuous improvement and innovation are crucial for staying competitive. We regularly gather feedback and study analytics data, which helps us refine and enhance our online presence. There are also nifty tools, like Hotjar for example, that allow you to understand how your audience is interacting with your website, which gives great insight into how you can continuously strive for improvement.
What are the most common mistakes you have seen people making when building their website and online business? What can be done to avoid those errors?
One of the most critical mistakes I’ve noticed is not prioritizing mobile optimization, intuitive navigation, and overall user experience. A significant portion of our audience accesses our site via mobile devices, and if we don’t provide a seamless experience, we risk losing potential customers. Additionally, complex navigation can frustrate people, leading to high bounce rates and missed opportunities.
It is important to focus on creating responsive designs that adapt to various screen sizes, ensuring that navigation is a pleasant user-friendly experience. By prioritizing these elements, you not only enhance user satisfaction but also foster greater engagement and loyalty among website visitors.
Is there any advice you’ve received in your career that you now wish you never followed? What happened?
I actually think that’s the wrong way to look at advice. The truth is, advice is highly contextual – what worked well for one person may not necessarily be the best course of action for someone else. First and foremost, it’s important to assess who is giving you the advice and whether they truly have your best interests at heart. But beyond that, even well-intentioned advice that worked for someone else may not align with your unique circumstances.
I’ve learned that advice should never be followed blindly. Instead, it should be viewed as one of many sources of inspiration that you weigh against your own research and understanding. This approach shifts the accountability to yourself and means you can never blame anyone else for making a decision. And even if that decision didn’t pan out as expected, it still served a purpose if you’ve learnt from it.
