Helping companies in their digital transformation with Rootstack

In this interview for Website Planet we talked with Alejandro Oses, CEO and Co-Founder of Rootstack, to know more about the solutions that the company creates and their relationship with clients.

You have a diverse client base that includes Heineken, the United Nations, and Hyundai. How can you adapt your solutions to suit such different needs?

First, to give you some context, we have four services in the company: Managed Teams, Staff Augmentation, Project-based Model Services, and Managed Services, which are services for support and maintenance.

Right now, most companies are seeking transformation solutions. Whatever they want to implement, whether it is CRM, intranet, or another tool, they need the skill set of engineers and expertise in architecture and development. They need to have a background in that technology base.

I can say the way companies define a vendor that will work with them depends on 1) which are the development processes and how they deliver quality services; 2) which are the technologies they choose from their stack; 3) the type of solution they need.

Where are your clients mostly located?

United States, Canada. In Latin America, mostly Panama, Colombia, Mexico, and Chile.

When a company reaches you asking for a solution, what are the first steps? What do you ask and want to discover to provide services?

Almost every time, we present to the company what we have done based on solutions, going from a period that can last a month to a year. Also, the different types of solutions, technologies, and methodologies of working on a project.

Based on that, a lot of things happen. The United Nations can say: hey, do you work with Drupal, Angular, or .Net? – we have different needs. Or they can say: I see on your list of expertise on solutions you have created intranets from scratch and that’s what we need right now.

That’s a selling point because companies look more at what is the structure of other companies and how their services are, and after that, they see their tech practice, which depends on the solution they are looking for.

How do you find the talent for each project?

We have a very sophisticated recruiting process, with a system we have developed. There’s a lot of automation involved because right now based on the digital transformation that is happening around the world there’s a lot of demand for a quality team that can be part of the company.

We recruit different people for the team all the time. We only hire full-time people. We need the team to be part of our culture and do things our way. We invest a lot in our team and if we lose someone it’s more than a loss of a person, it’s a lot of time invested to nurture that person. That’s what clients are seeking and what they have highlighted from us.

Why do you believe companies outsource projects and team creations to companies like yours?

In the past few years, due to the pandemic, there’s been a massive demand for people in tech, and it is very difficult to find them in different countries. The other point is that it is very difficult to manage all the demand.

If you work with a big company and they have automated processes, projects, or digital transformation, normally they’ll have their own team and rely on partners, like Rootstack, where they can get more “muscle” for a specific period so they can deliver faster projects or reach a deeper level of solutions, since we have a great variety of talent in different technologies.

Additionally, companies don’t want to take risks in developing a complete hiring process and betting to specialize people without being sure they will be successful in the role and remain committed to the company for a considerable period.

I find it fascinating that concepts like hybrid work, remote work, and outsourcing have been more widely accepted by big companies in the last few years. Do you believe there are more trends like those that could be accepted by big companies?

Currently, I believe we have reached a market peak and right now it is beginning to decrease. You can see that reflected in companies’ stocks and probably it’s going to push harder for big enterprises than for smaller ones.

What are Rootstack’s plans for the next 3 to 5 years?

The plans are to work hard to grow organically with different types of methods, partnerships, etc. We are working hard on being creative on more complex projects, delivering value to our clients, and growing our market reach.
