Hostinger vs. HostMonster – Which One Is Actually Better? [2024]

Though you may find HostMonster’s shared hosting plans similar to Hostinger’s, they actually aren’t. These plans are quite different from each other. To make an informed choice, you should know about these differences. To make your job easier, I tested both these hosting providers on multiple aspects like features, performance, pricing, security, and support. I found a clear winner in Hostinger.

Check Hostinger’s latest deals here1 or continue reading to know how Hostinger aces this Hostinger vs. HostMonster competition.

1. Plans and Pricing

Hostinger delivers better value for money and has cheaper prices too

HostMonster offers 4 shared hosting plans though they’re somewhat difficult to find. One of its shared plan (Go Pro) is optimized for WordPress. HostMonster’s cheapest plan costs more than Hostinger’s highest shared plan and is 5X its starting plan. While Hostinger offers the cheapest rate with quadrennial term, HostMonster does it for the triennial term. Renewal prices of both providers are steeper but Hostinger lets you choose the monthly term while the shortest term with HostMonster is annual.

With Hostinger, you’ll also get budget-friendly WordPress and VPS hosting along with email hosting and cloud hosting. HostMonster also offers VPS and dedicated servers. HostMonster has several paid add-ons that are automatically checked in the cart. You should uncheck them. Else, your total payable amount would increase sharply.

Both these providers offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Hostinger wins on account of its cheaper prices and better value for money.

2. Features

Hostinger outshines HostMonster in this tough round by a small margin

Both Hostinger and HostMonster let you host 1-unlimited websites. Hostinger’s shared plans come with CloudLinux OS, custom-developed hPanel, 1X-4X allocated resources, LSCache, free SSL certificate, customized advanced optimization, SSDs, free domain (with the annual term of premium/business plans), daily/weekly data backups, support for multiple PHP versions (5.2-7.4), SSH access (with 2 higher plans), Cloudflare protected nameservers, 1-click auto-installer with over a hundred apps, a website builder (free for 1 month), Cloudflare CDN (paid/free depending on plan), and Github integration, and among others.

With HostMonster’s shared hosting plans, you’ll get Linux OS, PHP 5 support, HostMonster cPanel, SSH access, and CodeGuard Basic (free for 2 higher plans). Several freebies are also on offer like domain for a year, Cloudflare CDN, 1-click installer, HostMonster SSL certificate, and a drag-and-drop website builder. You’ll also get paid add-ons like SEO tools, Site Backup Pro, and SiteLock Essential Security.

You can compare these two providers using this comparison table.

Hostinger HostMonster
Hosting Types Shared, WordPress, and email hosting plus cloud hosting and VPS Shared hosting, VPS, and dedicated hosting

Free CDN ✓(with WordPress)

Money-Back Guarantee 30 days 30 days
Despite its better disk space and bandwidth, HostMonster loses out to Hostinger when you consider the overall features of both.

3. Performance

With its better performance and uptime guarantee SLA, Hostinger beats HostMonster

Ensuring your website visitors enjoy fast loading speeds is made easy by Hostinger. Its Tier-3 datacenters deliver global coverage as they are positioned across 7 different regions. However, your choices are quite limited with HostMonster’s only datacenter in Utah. To deliver enhanced performance for its users, Hostinger uses SSDs, LSCache plugins, dual uplinks with multiple ISPs, Cloudflare CDN, and GZIP compression. HostMonster uses quad-and dual-core servers and multiple 10 GbE connections (for shared hosting) along with enhanced caching (for dedicated servers), CDN, and paid Site Backup Pro as well as SEO tools.

Hostinger offers a credit-backed 99.9% uptime guarantee. It delivered great uptime and loading speeds in our performance tests. You can get the details at our expert Hostinger review.
In contrast, you won’t get any uptime guarantee from HostMonster. Its score was average in our performance tests. For details, you can read our expert HostMonster review.

4. Security

Hostinger outshines its competitor’s mostly basic security features

For a security-conscious person like me, a web host’s security measures are an important decisive factor. With Hostinger, I don’t need to worry as it uses LVE containers, SSL certificate, CDN, weekly/daily backups, RAID-10, Imunify360/Bitninja (web application firewall), prognostic monitoring of server, and Wanguard anti-DDoS protection.

But HostMonster makes me worried as it offers SpamAssassin, free anti-virus applications (like ClamAV, ClamWin, ClamXav, etc.), Hotlink protection, CodeGuard Basic (free/paid), SiteLock Essential Security (paid), and 24/7 network monitoring. For its dedicated servers, it delivers data redundancy with RAID-1.

With its mostly basic security measures, HostMonster is no match for Hostinger.

5. Support

Hostinger’s superfast support scores over HostMonster’s average support

Hostinger impresses you with its 24/7 live chat, ticket, and email support though email support is only available for its logged-in user. A faster “Priority Support” is also available as a paid option. Hostinger’s live chat was extremely fast and efficient when I used it.

HostMonster says it offers 24/7 phone and live chat support. However, only its phone tech support is available 24/7. Other support timings depend on the department you want help from (billing, sales, etc). When I contacted its live chat, I was immediately connected to a support staff who answered my questions quickly and satisfactorily.

Hostinger provides self-help enthusiasts with multiple tutorials, a blog, and a comprehensive knowledgebase. HostMonster, on the other hand, offers a Help Center, resembling a knowledgebase but with potential for improved subject-wise organization, in my opinion.

Hostinger scores an easy win in this round with its blazing-fast support and adequate self-help options.

Hostinger Is the Champion

It was a close race between HostMonster and Hostinger in the features round though finally, Hostinger won it. In all the other rounds namely performance, pricing, security, and support, Hostinger won convincingly. So, I can confidently recommend Hostinger. It also features on our list of the best web hosting services, which gives you another reason to choose it.
