GoDaddy vs Crazy Domains – Our Surprising Results [2024]

Suzanne Stewart Written by:
Which is better, GoDaddy or Crazy Domains? Even though GoDaddy is a more globally popular web host and domain registrar than its Australian competitor, they’re both not so different when it comes to unreasonable prices, limited features, and unstable performance.

To properly compare GoDaddy and Crazy Domains, I evaluated both services across five different categories. I was surprised to find that to get the best out of each service, you need to purchase add-ons or subscribe to the most expensive packages.

My advice? Before you make any decisions, take a look at Hostinger’s offerings instead.

While neither can best Hostinger (or any of our other top hosting providers), GoDaddy just barely managed to squeak by Crazy Domains in our head-to-head matchup, Read on to find out how.

Plans and Pricing

Both Web Hosts Have High Package Renewal Rates

GoDaddy has four shared hosting plans for Linux and three plans for Windows. In contrast, Crazy Domains has three shared hosting plans for both Linux and Windows.

With GoDaddy, you can choose to sign up monthly, annually, biennially, or triennially. With Crazy Domains, you can be billed annually, biennially, or triennially.

Both GoDaddy and Crazy Domains offer similar prices for shared hosting and have high package renewal rates given the standard features. I’ve labeled the features as standard when compared with more feature-rich and resourceful hosts like Hostinger.

GoDaddy provides a free domain name and a 30-day money-back guarantee with annual plans (48 hours with monthly subscriptions). You’ll also get free website migration with WordPress hosting.

Crazy Domains don’t offer a free domain or free website migration. However, it provides a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Neither GoDaddy nor Crazy Domains are great value for money – but if you opt for one of GoDaddy’s WordPress hosting plans, you do benefit from optimized hosting and some decent WordPress-specific features like a simple WordPress setup wizard and servers that are optimized for WordPress.

Features

GoDaddy and Crazy Domains Offer Standard Features and Few Freebies

GoDaddy’s four shared hosting plans include from 25 to 100 GB disk space (HDD), 10 to unlimited MySQL databases, unlimited bandwidth, and free Office 365 Email (for the first year). You can also host 1 to 50 websites (depending on the plan) If you opt for Windows hosting instead, you can expect 100 GB to unlimited storage, and unlimited websites on the higher-tier plans.

Other key features that come with all Linux packages include cPanel and a software application installer. You’ll also get a free SSL certificate with GoDaddy’s higher-value plans for the first year.

On the other hand, Crazy Domains’ shared hosting plans for Linux come with unlimited bandwidth, 5 to 50 email accounts, 10 to 50 GB SSD storage, and you can host 1 to 10 (depending on the plan).

Other notable features include cPanel, an application installer, and 2 to 10 free stock images (from its image stock service). Unfortunately, Crazy Domains doesn’t offer free SSL certificates.

Performance

Both GoDaddy and Crazy Domains Have Disappointing Performance

GoDaddy has servers in the US, Europe and Asia, whereas Crazy Domains has servers in Australia, the UK, the USA, Belgium, India, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Even though Crazy Domains mostly targets Australian users, it has a more global presence than GoDaddy.

Both hosts only use SSD storage with specific plans. Unlike traditional disks, SSD drives make a remarkable difference in your website’s loading speed, stability, and overall performance.

GoDaddy provides a free CDN (Content Delivery Network) with WordPress hosting, but Crazy Domains doesn’t include it with any of its plans. A CDN boosts your website’s loading speeds, among other benefits, by placing it on a global network of cloud servers.

Both hosts promise a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Neither host has a perfect actual uptime, but GoDaddy users reported slightly more downtimes than Crazy Domains.

Despite being a big name in the website market, GoDaddy has one of the worst loading speeds I’ve come across. Find more detailed performance tests in GoDaddy’s full review.

On the other hand, the Crazy Domains loading speeds are slightly better than GoDaddy’s but still not good enough to be considered reliable. Check out more performance tests and detailed results in this expert Crazy Domains review.

Despite Crazy Domains performing slightly better than GoDaddy, neither host is good enough for the price. On the other hand, Hostinger is one of the top performers in the web hosting scene.

Security

Both Hosts Offer a Limited Range of Security Features

GoDaddy and Crazy Domains both secure servers with DDoS protection, strong firewalls, and 24/7 server monitoring. They also secure all account emails with antivirus/anti-spam software.

Both hosts use CloudLinux OS in all Linux-based shared hosting plans. CloudLinux OS securely isolates each account on a server to protect it against threats targeting other accounts. It also ensures the fair allocation of the server’s resources.

As previously mentioned, GoDaddy includes free CDN with its WordPress hosting plans. Another benefit of a CDN is that it acts as an additional layer of DDoS protection.

Crazy Domains includes free automatic weekly backups with all its plans, while GoDaddy only includes daily backups with specific plans.

Both hosts have a limited range of security features. Even though GoDaddy’s security is slightly better than Crazy Domains, I would recommend going with a provider such as Hostinger if you want top-notch security.

Support

Both Hosts Have Responsive but Unhelpful Support

Even though the Crazy Domains knowledgebase is more comprehensive than GoDaddy’s, it’s less organized, making it more difficult to find helpful articles and tutorials.

GoDaddy’s customer support is available 24/7 via live chat and phone. It also has multiple global call centers serving different countries and languages. I went for the live chat, and even though I was connected instantly, the agent wasn’t as helpful as I expected and was a bit misleading.

[GoDaddy] - [live chat]

Crazy Domains offers 24/7 support through various channels like live chat, phone, email, fax, and mail. I tested their live chat, but unfortunately, the agent wasn’t very helpful and even gave me incorrect advice.

[Crazy Domains] - [live chat]

Both hosts offer quick support, but what’s the point if the team isn’t well-trained, right? Sadly, neither host provides dependable support.

You Don’t Get Your Money’s Worth with Either GoDaddy or Crazy Domains

As you can see, there are several unflattering things with GoDaddy and Crazy Domains. Both hosts offer standard features at slightly high prices compared to other more affordable and feature-packed services in the same tier, like Hostinger1.

They both also fall behind in terms of performance, security and provide average customer support. It’s no surprise that neither GoDaddy nor Crazy Domains made it to this expert list of the best web hosting services, but Hostinger did.

FAQs

Does Hostinger sell domain names?

Yes. And like GoDaddy, a feature of certain hosting plans from Hostinger is a free domain name.

Why is Hostinger the best?

Aside from better prices and more feature-rich plans, Hostinger’s performance scores are some of the best in the field for the price.

Can you build a website with Crazy Domains?

Crazy Domains offers its own Website Builder, as well WordPress hosting plans. Both offer a fairly easy way to build a simple website. GoDaddy, however, offers more to the WordPress site owner, with its WordPress set up wizard and WordPress optimized servers.

Which host is best for beginners?

Hostinger wins this one, hands down. Its Website Builder was created for beginners in mind, its control panel is very easy to use, not to mention Hostinger’s support beats both GoDaddy and Crazy Domains teams’ mediocre efforts at helping resolve your issues.

Hi Mark, thanks for writing this article about the comparison between Godaddy's and Crazy Domians. I was wondering if there are any other better valued domain providers you would recommend that are best for Australian users. Thank you in advance.
